Let’s Talk Diaspora: Writing Assignments on Latina/o/x Immigration Directions, Guidelines, Rules, and Expectations
Once you have absorbed and indulged yourself to the preliminary studies, identities, experiences and history/historical markings and significance of Latina/o/x peoples, Part 1 Week 1 and all of Week 2 of Introduction to Latina/o/x Studies will focus on the diasporic/immigration patterns of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, and South American peoples to the United States (Week 3 will focus on the contemporary diasporic/immigration patterns of Central Americans [specifically from the Northern Triangle] with our first book, Enrique’s Journey).
In order to establish the unique, comparative histories of each region/country, we will hold writing assignments on the immigration of our Latina/o/x groups, starting with US Mexicans and ending with US South Americans.
For each designated Latina/o/x diasporic/immigrant group, you will read the required articles and respond to the following questions:
1. For each Latina/o/x group, please summarize at least ONE major diasporic/immigration event discussed by Latina/o/x Studies scholar(s) in the required reading. There will be at least one article for each section. Please write at least one p
