SCENARIO
Jakub underwent his surgical # R NOF repair yesterday morning. It is the next day, and you are on an AM shift. During handover at 0700 you are informed that Jakub has had an uneventful post-operative period so far but is taking regular PRN oxycodone and tramadol for his surgical pain. Jakub is due for his vital signs to be checked at 0800 hours. They are within normal limits, but as you are with Jakub he tells you that he has not opened his bowels since the day before his surgery. He states that his stomach feels very uncomfortable. Visually, his abdomen looks distended. He has nil aperients charted on his medication chart.
