(7) Why is communication so problematic in our organizations and project teams? Share your observations from the Lencioni (2006) leadership fable, your own professional experience, and your research. Articulate 1 or 2 things that you think project managers can do to improve the effectiveness of communication on project teams and in organizations overall.

(8) It could be argued that the entire Lencioni (2006) leadership fable is all about stakeholder management. Review the Stakeholder Management knowledge area chapter in the PMBOK (PMI, 2017) that is assigned this week and the final section on the Theory introduced by Jude Cousins in the Lencioni book.

· In what ways does Jude Cousins address stakeholder management best practices? Consider the theory Cousins introduced in the book and the approach he took to developing his theory.

· Share your thoughts on how you might apply this theory to an organization where you work, have worked, hope to work, or volunteer. 

· How do you think the people in this organization would respond to the theory, and what could you do to build the needed relationships to help open leaders’ eyes to the problems of silos, politics, and turf wars?

(9) Chapter 13 of the PMBOK (PMI, 2017) introduces several classification models that can be used for stakeholder analysis (pp. 511-513). Choose one of these models, or one from your own research, to analyze a stakeholder group or groups in an organization where you work, have worked, or participate as a volunteer or community member. Share the resulting grid, model, or matrix with the class and comment on what you learned by analyzing the stakeholder interests. How might you manage any competing interests that your analysis uncovered?

(10) Read the resources provided this week, including the Dhanda (2019) article, “Fostering Trust in a Virtual Workplace.”

Put yourself in the position of a project management consultant to a project manager faced with building a virtual team. List 2-3 challenges that you would expect that project manager to face, and outline a plan for facing the problems the PM should anticipate in terms of the team formation, development, and performance principles that you have been studying.

(11) After reviewing the DMIS mindsets, try to place yourself in one of the six mindsets described the Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (Bennett, 2014). Then respond to the case below from the perspective of the mindset you have chosen. Do not answer the questions from your own perspective, but try to role play a mindset that is different from yours. Also, try to pick a variety of mindsets (as a class) so that the class does not end up talking about the same one or two mindsets all week.

Place the name of the Mindset you are role playing (e.g. “Denial”) in the subject line of your response and address the following scenario:

The Case:

You have been assigned as the Project Manager for a recently launched U.S. resourced project that will implement a new I.T. system into the United States and Japan. The new system will require both process and behavioral change to be successful.

· How would you react?

· What initial steps would you take?

· Who would you include in discussions?

· How would you launch the project?

· How would you approach your customers in the U.S. and Japan?

· How would you handle differences in needs of the two groups of customers?

· How would you handle conflict or changes?
