The decision to go back to school for my master’s in nursing was a difficult one. I wish that I had more time as a registered nurse to develop my clinical skills and knowledge, but I also have a deep desire to learn more and be able to provide higher level of care to my patients. When I finally made the decision to go for my master’s degree in nursing, I easily decided to go with the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) route. As mentioned, I want to provide higher level of care to my surrounding community, and I feel that becoming an FNP would give me a broad range of education and experience to care for and treat an entire family unit. According to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (2021), an FNP has a broad scope of practice, but they also have the availability to obtain additional certifications in specialties such as pain, obesity management, and diabetes. I love the fact that I have options to continue my education after I have obtained my FNP license. This option is what is driving me into the direction of becoming an FNP.

Two professional organizations that I am interested in joining as I continue this journey are the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and the Nurse Practitioner Associates for Continuing Education (NPACE). The AANP provides NPs with career support, continuing education, state advocacy, and relevant information on current health events (AANP Member Benefits, n.d.). An additional perk to becoming an AANP member is that NPs qualify for a $75 discount when filling out certification applications. To join the AANP, one fills out an application online and pays a fee.

NPACE is beneficial for an NP because it provides countless avenues for continuing education hours. As nurses, we understand the daunting task it can be to find exciting and educational experiences that will give us the required CE hours to keep our license active. NPACE is a place where NPs can track their CE certificates, enjoy diverse CE courses, receive networking opportunities, attend exhibitions, and have the chance to listen to renowned speakers (Nurse Practitioner Associates for Continuing Education, 2021). As a future NP, I want to affiliate with an association that assists me in my education and keeps me accountable to continue learning. To become a member of NPACE, one must make an account and then purchase the educational bundle they wish to participate in.

Module 2 | Part 2: Strategies to Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics

I have analyzed the relationship between academic integrity and writing and the relationship between professional practices and scholarly ethics. I have also identified strategies I intend to pursue to maintain the integrity and ethics of my academic work while a student of the MSN program and my professional work as a nurse throughout my career. The results of these efforts are shared below.

Directions: In the space below, craft your analysis/writing sample, including Part 1 (The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity) and Part 2 (Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work).

Part 1: Writing Sample: The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity

In the space below, write a 2- 3-paragraph analysis that includes the following:

· The explanation for the relationship between academic integrity and writing

For nontraditional learners or students, the relationship between writing and academic integration can help transform it into an ideal platform for them. It has helped the learners in efforts to have their goals achieved and also reducing the daily struggles and also dealing with the obstacles. When it comes to academic integrity, there are elements of honesty that must be adhered to by all the institutions that deal with academics (Aitchison & Mowbray, 2015). The education institutions are usually guided by academic integrity, which is used to evaluate the values and status that is known to be a tool for guiding them. Academic integrity tries to look into plagiarism matters, and it should be avoided at all costs. Still, accredited scholarly articles must be used when doing research but in a paraphrased or own words. It is essential to discuss the topic, especially when it comes to academic writing and academic integrity. Via the use of the internet, writing today has become frivolous; hence a lot of work has plagiarism elements without having the correct citation .itis true to say that academic integrity is an essential value in learning institutions.

· An explanation for the relationship between professional practices and scholarly ethics

· The ANA has defined ethics in its phrase when it comes to the relationship between scholarly ethics and professional practices. It has been defined as the formal mortality analysis from various perspectives, including the logical, semantic, normative, epistemology, and analytical (Sutherland-Smith, 2008). According to the American Nursing association or ANA, mortality is about the human beliefs, behaviors, and characters present in a culture or society. The writer’s ideas and research are captured in the scholarly writing and reading by coming across many articles. When it comes to professionalism, there is the adherence to the skills and the expectations that have been implemented (Anef Texas Tech University Health Science Center Texas Sharon Cannon et al., 2014). There is adherence to the code of conduct when working in a particular institution. When dealing with patients, nurses put I to practice their roles, and they directly involve ethics in academics. They are known to be among the professionals with the highest ethical considerations to provide the most secure care to patients. There is the use of evidence-based research by nurses, and solutions cannot be found with visiting non-scholarly articles.

· Cite at least two resources that support your arguments, being sure to use proper APA formatting.

· Use Grammarly and SafeAssign to improve the product.

· Explain how Grammarly, Safe Assign, and paraphrasing contributes to academic integrity

It has been of much help and assistance to the graduates to have their work evaluated before submitting the needed assignment (Sutherland-Smith, 2008).it has been helping to improve the students’ writing skills, and Grammarly has been assisting in correcting grammatical errors while the safe-assign has been identifying the plagiarism element. Learners can now rephrase and redo their sentences structure curtesy of the safe assign and Grammarly an in academic writing. These skills are essential. The skills are critical by limiting the chances of having plagiarized work and can be detected by Turnitin.

PART 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work

Expand on your thoughts from Part 1 by:

Identifying and describing strategies you intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your 1) academic work while a student of the MSN program and 2) professional work as a nurse throughout your career. Include a review of resources and approaches you propose to use as a student and a professional.

In academic work, it is vital that, as a graduate, I maintain integrity and ethics when it comes to academic work since one is knowledgeable. Paraphrasing can be used when writing as an essential skill, and also, the correct citation is needed in academic work ( Annual review of nursing education, volume 2, 2019). I aspire to graduate and use Grammarly, Turnitin, safe-assign, and paraphrasing to improve my writing skills. Via the use of the named tools, I can check on the body of my work and correct the grammar (Anef Texas Tech University Health Science Center Texas Sharon Cannon et al., 2014). As a nurse, I will be able to put evidence-based research into the ethics of the nurses’ outlines and provide the best care to the patients and continuity. Other sources like the Walden library and google can improve the services and information that is rendered pertinent for a patient. Nurses should advocate for the patient to allow communication, empathy, and honesty not to be compromised.

Module 3 | Part 3: Research Analysis

I have identified one topic of InterestInterest for further study. I have researched and identified one peer-reviewed research article focused on this topic and have analyzed this article. The results of these efforts are shared below.

Directions: Complete Step 1 by using the table and subsequent space below to identify and analyze your selected research article. Complete Step 2 by summarizing in 2-3 paragraphs the results of your analysis using the space identified.

Step 1: Research Analysis

Complete the table below

The topic of InterestInterest:
Research Article: Include full citation in APA format, as well as link or search details (such as DOI)GBD 2015 Obesity Collaborators. (2017). Health effects of overweight and obesity in 195 countries over 25 years. New England Journal of Medicine377(1), 13-27.https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1614362
Professional Practice Use:One or more professional practice uses of the theories/concepts presented in the articleThis article has mostly focused on the health effects of overweight and obesity in 195 countries for individuals over the age of 25 years. The article applies the global burden of disease study data and methods to quantify the effects of illnesses that are related to having a high body-mass index based on individuals’ age, sex, cause, and BMI across 195 countries from 1990 to 2015. The global burden of disease study data is used to provide a comprehensive view of what causes death and disability of people across age, time, countries, and sex. This concept is also used as a tool to quantify health loss as a result of various diseases, risk factors, and injuries to improve the health system.
Research Analysis MatrixAdd more rows if necessaryStrengths of the ResearchLimitations of the ResearchRelevancy to Topic of InterestNotes
One of the article’s strengths is that it addresses some of the main limitations presented by previous studies, such as quantifying obesity prevalence among children and including more data sources. The article also presents a few limitations, such as applying both measured and self-reported data together with height and weight and corrected the bias available in self-reported data through data measured in sex, age, geographic region. The article provides a comprehensive evaluation of the trends in high BMI and the involved disease burden.More research is needed to evaluate the health effects of overweight and obesity in most countries, particularly on individuals above the age of twenty-five years.
The article a systematic evaluation of the strengths of evidence for the connection between health and BMI results and included the BMI results, which were sufficient evidence of the connection available. The article does not propagate the uncertainty of age and sex patterns applied to differentiate the aggregated data.It shows the prevalence and disease burden in high BMI is rising internationally.
The article applies beta distribution to distinguish BMI distributions at the population level. The article doe not consider the uncertainty of BMI regression coefficients in the analysis. The article suggests the need to implement a multicomponent intervention to lower the prevalence and disease burden due to high BMI.
It applies the best available evidence to evaluate BMI’s lowest risk. The earlier studies had sparse data for some locations. Thus estimates were applied based on the country’s level of covariates and regional data.
The article quantifies the trends of high BMI and the involved disease burden in different development levels. It does not recognize a consistent connection between nationally representative data and data representing urban and rural areas.
It estimates the demographic and epidemiologic change contribution to the changes of BMI-related burden. The article does not correct data with potential bias.
The article does not evaluate the trends of other adiposity measures that can better relate to particular health incomes, such as waist circumference and waist to hip ratio.

Step 2: Summary of Analysis

Craft a summary (2-3 paragraphs) below that includes the following:

· Describe your approach to identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research

· Identify at least two strategies that you would use that you found to be effective in finding peer-reviewed research

· Identify at least one resource you intend to use in the future to find peer-reviewed research

A peer-reviewed article is an article that has been evaluated by journal editors and expert scholars using the quality and scientific merits of the article and its research methods. One of the methods that I use to identify peer-review articles is through checking how the article is written, its structure, and what the article focuses on. When an article is written by authors who are scholars and have advanced degrees such as Ph.D. or M.D or when the author is an affiliate, the article is peer-reviewed. Additionally, I also identify that if an article has a clear structure that brings out the scientific research study, I consider it peer-reviewed. I also check whether the purpose of the article is to offer original research that provides further understanding of the topic. An article that provides more understanding about a particular topic is peer-reviewed.

One of the strategies that I found to be effective in identifying peer-reviewed articles is checking what the article has focused on and the intended audience of the article. If the article has focused on providing more information or providing new information regarding a particular topic, the article is mostly a peer-reviewed article. Articles with a scope or topic that narrowly defines the article’s technical focus and theoretical focus are peer-reviewed. Another strategy that I found to be effective in finding peer-reviewed articles is that of identifying whether an academic or a scholarly journal published the article. Most of the academic and scholarly journals are peer-reviewed. One of the best resources to use when it comes to finding peer-reviewed articles is google scholar, which provides different versions of an article based on the research topic. One can also use the online school library to access different peer-reviewed articles.

Module 6 | Part 4: Finalizing the Plan

I have considered various options for my nursing specialty, including a close look at my selected (or currently preferred) specialty and second-preferred specialty. I have also developed a justification of my selected (or preferred) specialty. Lastly, I have examined one professional organization related to my selected or preferred specialty and considered how I could become a member of this organization.

The results of my efforts are below.

Directions: Complete Step 1 by writing 2-3 paragraphs in the space below comparing the nursing specialty you have selected – or the one you prefer if your choice is still under consideration – to your second preference. Identify each specialty and describe the focus and the role that graduates are prepared for. Identify any other differentiators you feel are significant, especially those that helped or may help you reach a decision.

Complete Step 2 by writing a paragraph identifying and justifying your reasons for choosing your MSN specialization. Be sure to incorporate any feedback you received from colleagues in this week’s Discussion Forum.

Complete Step 3 by examining and identifying one professional organization related to your selected or preferred specialty. Explain how you can become a member of this organization.
