Aim:

The aim of this assignment is to assess your knowledge and understanding of types of dictionaries: their structures, arrangements and content, and your ability to differentiate between dictionaries depending on what lexicographical information they provide.

Instructions:

· Use different types of dictionaries to find as many as possible lexicographical information about the words in this chart:

Evaluation: The three dictionaries that had this word gave very similar definitions. The specialty dictionary had what appears to be a slightly more precise definition. The Oxford dictionary’s Arabic keyboard could give it the advantage in some situations. Overall, if I were writing or translating a technical paper related to medicine, I would turn to Stedman’s dictionary first. Otherwise, Merriam-Webster or Oxford dictionaries would be fine.
