In the 1900s, the British and the French were the most powerful Empires at the time since they were colonizing India, North Africa, etc. European expansion (or imperialism) can be seen as one of the key factors behind the war. The tensions between these nations caused coercion all over Europe. A political ideology was spreading through Europe specifically Serbia was nationalism. “Serbian nationalism” started to rise after the decline on the Ottoman Empire which led to the assassination of “Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria.” The assassination of Franz was the start of World War I that led conflicts between alliances. A concept that sparked World War I is millenarianism which was held by “religious, political, and different social movements” to bring change. For example, the German government believed in the war and supported Austria-Hungary which in these ways, it was for the Germans to secure their power. The German’s power was supported by the public nationalism which further united the monarchy.

There were different forms of totalitarian dictatorship known as communism and fascism, which was a way different leaders of different nations took control during this time. Communism was when everyone in a society worked fairly and were all paid the same. In fascism was when the government used dictatorship which is when all the power is given to one person. Communism was similar to Fascism for being under a dictatorship system as well. Both ways of the ruling were anti-democracy, anti-free-speech, and anti-individual. They also had the nation under government surveillance. However, with the many similarities, communists and fascists shared there were also many differences. In the communist nations, all the property people owned was all public unlike in fascists there was private enterprise. Communists had class equality for the poor and fascists were rigid with the different classes. Fascists were very big on racism and also had a national strength of war. Communists wanted an equal economy all around for the poor unless connected. With learning and discussing these different types of ruling for these nations, I would never want to have to live and grow up in one of them.
