A Reflection that resonated with me was the ‘Start-up of You’ video. I believe what Muhaamud Yunus concept that “we are all entrepreneurs really resonates with Reid Hoffmans patterns he drew about highly successful people and highly successful start-ups. This concept of people always working on themselves everyday and you must invest in yourself everyday in adaptive economy. I believe this concept is important because in the world of business everything is always changing and as business changes you must change with it. This will the door open for growth and opportunity. I think as a professional you are always working on yourself like the video said in the beginning. In whatever profession you do, you are going to have to figure out problems or situations you never experienced taking a part into learning how to solve different situations and outcomes will allow a professional to excel in their professional career. Lastly, what the video also said is that the knowledge you need is always changing and I think that is true in today’s world. Nothing will stay the same and that’s why you must always be open to learning.

Week 2 Reflection

The concept that resonated with me in Chapter 8 of the book Writing & Speaking for Business was when the book says the following (Baker & Baker 2015): ‘not all problems are of equal importance or of equal urgency’.(p.133) Then the book goes into categorizing the types of problems such as ” Important and urgent Important but not urgent, not important, but urgent and finally not important, not urgent”. This will help you decide what problems demand your attention and what problems do not. I believe this concept is important because it shows us how to manage problems, and prioritize them. I think applying this concept in a professional context, I believe helps you propel ways into being more efficient in the workplace.

Another concept that helps apply to those categories of problems are the six general steps that help you solve these problems. The six general steps are to define the problem, analyze the problem, develop alternative solutions, select a solution, implement the solution, and evaluate the outcome. These steps help you solve the problems and make it easier to be manageable.

Week 3 Reflection

I think this week’s material was very eye opening. Technology has taken a very integral part in our lives, and it is a very important factor in the hiring process. I always knew there was a AI process role in the hiring process, but never knew what type of role it played. (HireRight2019)

According to Hire Right 75% of resumes are rejected because they can’t be read correctly and about 70% of resumes are cut due to the key words that are not looked for in the resume. (HireRight2019) It is advised in the video that you must make your resume AI friendly in today’s hiring process. Never place contact addresses at he heading, and make your resume very clear with proper grammar. This video resonated with me because a lot of thee mistakes are the same ones I made when applying do jobs. A lot of the facts the video presented about the resumes (HireRight2019).

Another topic that was eye opening and rather controversial was AI being the reason you’re hired because of facial expressions. According to Hirevue AI eliminates biased through the hiring process (Wall Street Journal 2019). What resonated to me about this chapter was when they said this type of technology is a developing technology and there is no proof that facial expressions are what makes a good worker (Wall Street Journal 2019). I think how I will apply this concept to my professional career is not to eliminate candidates based on a certain criteria.

Week 4 Reflection

In this weeks reflection we learned about how to enhance messages visually. This chapter explains how writers lack the need for visual enhancement, and also how using metaphors can help the readers envision what they are talking about. The concept that resonates with me was ‘HATS’. This concept explained in the book which stands for headings, art, typography, and spacing. A good heading can be straight to the point. Arts can help the reader visualize what they are referring too, and typography is the font in which the reader is reading. Finally I think most over looked concept is ‘Spacing’ in which the explains “White spaces give visual relief, prevents readers fatigue, and enhances reader friendliness” (Writing & Speaking for Business 2015). This is the one concept from the chapter I did not know makes a big difference when writing. I think all of these concepts are what I will take into my professional career, especially line spacing is one that I did not know makes a big difference in the readers mood and perception.

Reflection Week 5

In this week’s reflection what resonated with me the most in Chapter 3 was how to follow the opening, agenda, body, and closing, (OABC) writing patterns concept. By using this concept it will help me start every message, resume, or letter with the first part of the concept, the opening. By having a good opening this will allow me to have good background information toward what message you are trying to write. The second piece of this concept is having a good agenda toward the message. Have a good way to organize your message, and in your message try to introduce key features of what route you’re going with your message. The third part of this concept is the body which I think is the most important part of this concept. The body explains the whole message that you want to get across. Making the body as clear as possible will help the reader know what point is trying to be made about the message. Finally the last component to this concept is the closing. Having a well written closing that could tell the reader the key points of the body. I think the OABC concept will help me in my professional career because I think in business getting your point as clear and efficient as possible is the best way of communication, and this will mitigate communication problems.

Reflection Midterm Week

The course concept that I would like to choose that resonated with me the most was the infographic video. The infographic video gave a lot of detail on why they work really well with 40% of people, and how they work well with visual learners. Infographics also help visualize relationships and statistics more simply and easily. This really resonates with me because personally I believe that I am a visual learner. As a visual learner I think that I am able to compartmentalize things better. This concept of infographics is important because it is able to make statements with limited words. The different types of infographics you can make are what makes infographics critical in getting your message across. I think the best type of infographic is the ‘Visual article’. A visual article infographic makes a piece of writing more visual. This type of

infographic is best used to cut down on words. How can I apply this to my professional context as a Business Administration and Management major if one day I become a manager I can use infographics to explain a product or service my business provides

Week 16 Reflection

In this week’s reflection I will talk about my experience in this class. I believe that my experience in this class will benefit me in my professional career because of all of the professionalism that was applied in this course. I will describe my learning experience in this course a little tough just based on the fact I had a lot going during this semester. My Perspective on building a professional brand has changed because the amount of work that goes into building yourself up and putting yourself on a pedal stole. Also telling your story to really make you stand out from others. My understanding of the future has changed because I never really knew how much AI has played a role in the hiring interview process. The fact when writing a resume it must be AI friendly, and you must have words that standout in that resume. Also how some companies use AI to interview future employees. I believe that using AI is a good thing and bad thing. It can help you be more efficient when sorting through resumes, but the bad thing about the interview process through AI is that it can be biased through different facial movements.
