Academic Essay Rough Draft: IMMIGRATION IN AMERICA

Many European countries have been experiencing more extensive migrations. The United

States of America is among the leading nations that has been receiving millions of immigrants at

its borders. This has been a burning issue lately, especially after Donald Trump’s ban in the

United States. Despite the many concerns that are associated with immigration, several benefits

come along with it. A lot of people bizarrely argue when it comes to this matter of immigration

with arguments that do not have any basis or opinions that are outdated. There are many

advantages that have been associated with immigration to the host countries.

To start with, immigration is very important in the labor force. Immigration is of great

economic and social benefit to the host countries as it is a very great contributor to the labor

force in the host countries. “There is a considerable benefit accruing to the host countries’

economy from highly skilled and highly educated workers’ legal immigration” (Kahanec, &

Pytliková, 2017). Immigrants are a significant part of the labor force. In industries such as

construction and home health aides and the tech industry, there is a considerable demand for

immigrant workers. Therefore, immigration helps in providing a constant growth in the labor

force, which allows the host’s labor market. Some immigrants are very skilled, and thus they can

be relied on, and they are employed in essential jobs throughout the labor market, which is

helping the economy grow continuously.

The immigrants are also very important in that they help in growing the economy through

paying taxes. The contention that immigrants do not pay taxes and a net drain on services is a

myth. The immigrants are very committed to paying their taxes, which helps in growing the

economy of the host countries.Theresa TurkShow this by using data from a source, like possibly data showing how much they pay in taxes in a year’s time.Theresa Turkand areTheresa TurkTheresa TurkShow the reader this, don’t just tell them. An increase in the host countries’ productivity has been noted due to the immigrants

getting in. “This is because they tend to bring new skills, new energy, and strike a balance in the

workforce” (Portes, 2018). The migration helps in facilitating cross-border social and economic

ties between countries, increasing the mobility of ideas and technologies.

However, “there are also many concerns are revolving around immigration in terms of

the potential adverse effects of immigration, such as the impact on employment and wages for

low-skilled workers without considering the contributions of immigration to the economy and

the labor market” (Zazaevich, 2017). On the other side, there is the view that by permitting

workers who are low-skilled to move freely between countries, there is the equalization of the

Another concern is that immigration increases labor endowment, which, in turn, creates a

new internal balance that helps in lowering the national wages, higher employment rates, and,

consequently, this leads to higher national returns. Is, reducing the numbers of immigrants

entering into countries a solution towards the lack of jobs by the natives? This remains to be

thorny issues that have been criticized and embraced I equal measures. Some believe that the

immigrants will, in the long run, have a dramatic positive, positive impact o the economy as they

will become more educated and more productive professionals. Also, the opposers of

immigration have talked of how government should exercise better laws to control the people

entering into the States from the foreign land. The most buzzed argument that is put forward is

that American citizen is unemployed because immigrants stole their jobs and disrupted the

economy.Theresa TurkClarify what this means.Theresa TurkExpand on this!Theresa TurkExpand on this.Theresa TurkExpand on this paragraph.

It is important to streamline the process of immigration. The immigrants go through

many struggles so that they can live their lives happily and make money for providing for their

families. However, as the immigrants try to cross through the border, they face many tribulations

and struggles. For instance, the root causes of trafficking are indeed very many, interconnected,

and often very complex. This includes illegal crossing, which increases the individuals’

vulnerability, increasing demand for the trafficked person, their labor, and services. That erodes

the capacity of different states from preventing and combating trafficking.

Emphasizing the dangers of illegal crossing is indeed a very good intervention in solving

the problem. This is because the problem will have been solved from the root. Poverty and

economic vulnerabilities are the primary contributors to trafficking. These conditions induce

people to migrate in search of better living conditions. If the people are sensitized of the dangers

they may face when illegally crossing the borders, they will have to think twice and find ways to

solve their problems from within than going to search for greener pastures elsewhere. Countries

will strive to solve their problems internally rather than running away from their problems every

time they arise. These poor countries should be helped to give education to their people who will,

in turn, reduce the many problems that they go through (Simionescu, et al., 2017). With

education, there will be an equitable distribution of resources, which will reduce the conflicts

witnessed now and then in these countries.

However, this is not the only ultimate solution. It is also essential to give people some

hope for regular migration. The migrants should be given an opportunity of migrating according

to the law through regular legal pathways. This will make people seeking jobs in areas where

labor is needed to come to these countries lawfully. Regular migration shuns the problem of

encouraging organized crimes since there is creation of greater transparency. Through such

ways, illegal immigration will reduce, and people may be able to move freely to areas where they

can be able to feed themselves and their families.

English Composition II – Week 8 Assignment

Revising an Academic Final Draft Purpose of assignment: To practice revision skills by revising your Week 6 Rough Draft.

Procedure: For this assignment, you will revise your Rough Draft by considering the feedback you have received from your instructor and fellow classmates. Please note that revision is not the same as fixing-errors. While you are expected to proofread your final paper carefully, you will also need to consider global and local revisions. (See your textbook for definitions of these terms.) The goal is to write the best paper you can, and, while you have received feedback from readers (your instructor and the class), the choices of what and how to revise are up to you.

However, please note that your revision must show significant effort to improve the quality of your writing. This may include (but is not limited to) the following:

· strengthening your argument · narrowing the focus of your topic · reconsidering your audience, purpose, or exigence · writing a more compelling introduction · clarifying your thesis · tightening organization · using credible sources or more fully integrating the sources you have · wrapping up your paper with a satisfying conclusion · citing and documenting sources correctly.

*Simply correcting errors does not count as revision. Writing a new paper on a different topic also does not count as revision.

The criteria for this assignment are the same as for your Week 6 Rough Draft:

Purpose of assignment: To compose a rough draft of an academic paper, using exigence, audience, purpose, and research.

Procedure: In previous assignments and discussions, you have selected a topic to write about, explored its exigence, audience, purpose, and researched the topic using credible, scholarly sources. Now you will put it all together into a rough draft.

· The purpose of your essay (to define, to evaluate, or to propose) will be up to you, but your essay must demonstrate a clear purpose.

· The audience for your essay can be any group of readers who are affected by or interested in your topic. However, there must be a clear and specific sense of addressed and invoked audiences.

The purpose of this essay is not to prove whether you are right or wrong, but to show that you understand the topic well from multiple angles so you can represent it fairly and contribute in a meaningful way to an ongoing conversation about it. You may think of your essay as an “argument of inquiry”: intended to lead your audience to a deeper understanding of an issue that affects them.

Your rough draft should meet the following guidelines:

1. Between 900 and 1200 words 2. Includes quotations, paraphrases, and summaries from four or more scholarly sources

10/28/20, 6:57 AM Page 1 of 2

representing more than one side of the issue 3. Qualifies authors (i.e., shows why your sources are credible) 4. Withholds personal opinion 5. Is written in third person 6. Multimodal elements, such as photos or graphics, may be included at your discretion 7. Includes APA Style in-text citations and a References page 8. Has been closely edited so it contains few or no mechanical errors

Although you will have a chance to revise this essay for Week 8, understand that writing is a process and that no one “gets it right” on the first draft. For this reason, you should allow yourself plenty of time to work on this paper and even write a few drafts before you submit one for peer review and grading. For more on peer review, see below.

Format: Standard essay format of introduction, body, and conclusion. Your introduction should include a thesis statement that expresses the main point of your essay. For an example of an academic essay, see “Echoes of 1776 in 2011: A Rhetorical Analysis of Nicholas Kristof’s ‘Watching Protesters at Risk’” in Chapter 13 of your textbook.

Format the assignment in APA Style: one-inch margins, page numbers at the top right, title page, in-text citations, and a references page.

Submitting the assignment: Attach your essay as a single file Word document or .pdf file and submit to the W8 assignment drop box.
